You might already be aware of all the popular beaches, cities and monuments in Malta which are heavily publicized because they’re wonderful tourist attractions; but here is a list of gorgeous hidden spots off the beaten path that will take your breath away!
Għajn Tuffieħa which translates to “Apple’s Eye” is also known as the Riveria Beach, as it is close to the location of where the Riveria Hotel once stood. The remains of the hotel can actually still be seen from the beach. Għajn Tuffieħa and the popular Golden Bay are actually a twin beach but separated by a headland. However, Għajn Tuffieħa, is not as easily accessible. It is accessed only via long footpaths, winding stairs or along the clay slopes. When you finally get there, the natural beauty at this location is astounding and it appears almost untouched. It will certainly be one of the top natural Malta views during your trip.
Valletta is the capital of Malta but it houses many hidden gems. This would be a great experience for lovers of history and architecture. The main streets are usually busy but the true beauty lies in the backstreets. You will see several buildings with walls that tell stories of over 400 years, colourful wooden balconies that are a true characteristic of vintage Maltese structure, the harbor and best of all you will be able to meet the beautiful locals.
You’re probably more familiar with Malta’s Blue Lagoon but there’s also Coral Lagoon which is a beautiful work of nature. Its stunning crystal-clear water makes it perfect for snorkelers and divers as they explore the hidden cave. This natural wonder has many opportunities for photo ops and will be etched in your memories for a long time.
If you love hiking and adventures, this is the perfect experience for you. Otherwise referred to as the “Great Wall of Malta”, Victoria Lines is a 12 kilometer walking trail which stretches from one coast the next and separates the north and south of the island. In the 1800’s these lines were a set of fortifications which were made up of four forts and a continuous infantry line. Since being abandoned after losing military relevance, it has become a wonderful attraction which tells many stories and offers unique and stunning views along the way.
In the south of the island you will find Marsaskala – a sleepy fishing village. This hidden gem is a must-visit on your trip to Malta. You will be amazed by the bright designs of the traditional fishing boats and fishermen’s houses by the bay and if you love seafood, you will surely be spoilt for choice as you will discover some of the island’s best seafood restaurants. This scenic little fishing village feels as if it was frozen in time and it is definitely worth a visit.
